It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, especially in the Greenbrier Valley Visitor’s Center as the community is decorating the center with beautiful trees and wreaths to be auctioned to benefit the United Way of the Greenbrier Valley. The Chamber’s young professional group, Generation Greenbrier Valley, has partnered with United Way to host the business social to kick start the season and highlight the Holiday Trees on November 29 from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Center.
A virtual forest of colorful and unique trees has sprung up, showcasing the creative design skills of local civic groups and businesses. Some of the participating organizations include Bluebell Garden Club, First National Bank, Greenbrier East High School, Greenbrier Episcopal School, Gillespie’s Flowers and Productions, Jim’s Drive-In, State Fair of WV, Howe’s Things, Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Generation Greenbrier Valley, Gateway Industries, MWV, The Greenbrier, and RE Max. A silent auction for decorative items will conclude on December 7 along with a live auction for the larger trees. A $1 vote for a favorite tree will put participants in a drawing for an iPad.
The November 29 Business After Hours will feature refreshments by Carol Spencer of Taste of Heaven Bakery. Generation Greenbrier Valley’s mission is to retain and attract young people in the region through networking opportunities, social events, and community outreach, such as co-hosting the November 29th event and presenting Dancing with the Stars of the Greenbrier Valley in April. GGV recently hosted their first 5k in conjunction with the Freshwater Folk Festival to benefit the WSS Food Pantry. GGV is a regional partner of Generation West Virginia, a statewide young professional leadership program.
