Hiring older workers make good business sense, as statistically they have lower absenteeism and job longevity, according to Experience Works data. Experience Works is a local non-profit that has special expertise in meets the need of small business owners. They match mature workers with local businesses seeking reliable experienced employees. Come learn more about how they place workers and their funding mechanism on February 20 at noon for the Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce Power Lunch at the New River Workforce Training Offices at Jefferson Office Park.
Experience Works is a national, charitable, community-based organization. Originally named Green Thumb, and chartered in 1965 as a small, rural demonstration program, Experience Works has grown to be the nation’s leading provider of training, employment, and community service for low-income older people. The program impacts more than 50,000 people each year and has more than 400 employees and operations in 30 states and Puerto Rico. It is funded by grants, contracts and foundations, and contributions from organizations and individuals.
The Experience Works office in Lewisburg is located at 107 Court Street. Joan Reed is the Employment and Training Coordinator and has a staff of 4, which includes Jettina Davis, Jeannie Collins, Patrick Gatens and Leta Bailey. The local communities are impacted positively by the program, as people who are productive and active throughout their lives will have better health, increased longevity, and a positive impact on the economy.
Power Lunches are monthly services of the Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce held in conjunction with New River Community and Technical College. The setting is casual and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and spend their lunch hour learning information which can benefit their business.
